Social Security for divorced SAHM

Hi all,

My parents divorced 20 years ago after 11 years of marriage. My sister is disabled and my mom worked part time while caring for my sister, but never worked full time or paid into social security. She’s now facing a future with zero retirement, and in the divorce my dad convinced her to agree to not take alimony or any of his retirement (I believe she thought this was okay because she was still young and the extent of my sister’s disability and the impact it would have on my mom’s ability to work wasn’t yet known).

My dad is now retired. He worked for the city for over 30 years. Apparently he didn’t pay into social security but some kind of city pension scheme. Is there any remit for my mom to get social security on his work record?
