So I’m six weeks pregnant with our third. I haven’t told anyone at work yet. My issue is that my due date is one month prior to our fiscal year end (I’m an accountant). I know this will put my team in a bind. I get 30 calendar days 100% pay on short term disability then two weeks at 75%. My company will then give me two weeks at 100%. Any remaining for FMLA is saved vacation/no pay. My husband gets paternity leave but it will be difficult to take because if he takes it after all the time I would take, it will then be his year end (he’s an accountant too).
What I want to offer is for me to go back to work (assuming everything goes fine etc) after the month away, finish year end for two weeks while my husband stays home, then go back on maternity leave for the next couple months.
I didn’t work with my prior two so I don’t know how this works. Should I talk to HR before talking to my boss? I am assuming that you can’t bounce off and on short term disability like that but I don’t know. I was just trying to find a way to make it work for everyone and not lose any of the few benefits I have. Oh, and if you can’t already tell I’m in the U.S. 🙂
