Should I send a follow-up email after interview?

So, around a week before Christmas I had a phone interview with a recruiter for a position I am interested in pursuing. After that, the recruiter reached out to tell me that they would like to move forward with me as a candidate, and it being around the holidays (last email we exchanged was Dec. 22) she will again reach out to me in the new years about the next steps and an in-person interview.

I know the new year just started, but I still have not heard back. When do you think I would hear back? Should I follow up with her and ask? If so, when would be the appropriate time to do so and what would I include in the follow up email? Or should I just wait it out and if I don’t receive anything back, just assume they’ve moved on?
